Fears, facts and fascination. These three words perfectly describe v‘s Youth Advisory Board’s public speaking training with SpeakersTrust. We began with a few aims for the day :

1) Improve our public speaking skills

2) Get to know each other better

3) enjoy it.

We all had different levels of public speaking experience ranging from none at all to having spoken in front of audiences of hundreds at conferences. It was thus hard to find a place to start so naturally we started at the beginning and went over the basics which helped everyone.

Then we set personal aims. These were the things we wanted to work on personally and ranged from building confidence to stopping our legs nervously twitching. We then had to tell a story, the most memorable of which involved a fear of ducks.

Next we planned our afternoon speeches. These really revealed who we are and most importantly that we are all passionate people; all with a passion for improving an area of our lives ranging  from unemployment to inspiring innovation within our respective areas. If nothing else we decided that we all want to carry on public speaking. Bring on level 2!
