The vInspired bods behind Igniter know exactly how you can get the public to financially support your inspired ideas.IgniterTicket-vinspiredcom

In January we launched Igniter, a brand new crowdfunding platform for young people to raise the funds they need from members of the public to run their own projects.  It was a great success with all 8 projects fully funded within the first 3 weeks.  We’re looking for more young people to share their creativity with us so we can help you to get the money you need to do something amazing.

After all, what good are great ideas without a way to tell everyone about them?

Whether you have the tiniest seed of an idea or have a project you’ve been running for a while, we want to hear from you.  Projects that have been featured so far vary from promoting mental health to supporting young people into employment to starting a social enterprise to raise money for charity.

As today is World Creativity and Innovation Day, we’ve put together some top tips from our own creators and innovators.

    Top tips for crowdfunding:

    • Promote! Promote! Promote! Tweet everyone, email everyone, Facebook everyone, ask your friends, family, colleagues, boss etc. Don’t just do it once either, make sure you keep doing it throughout the time that your page is open.
    • Have a realistic goal – don’t set your target too high. It may put people off donating and if you don’t reach it, you won’t get any money at all.
    • Have a realistic time frame. Short time frames work better. With long time frames people think ‘I’ll do it later’ and never do.
    • Make friends with others on Igniter (you can easily do this via Twitter) and help to promote each other’s projects – it really does work!
    • Publicly say thank you to people who have donated via your social media accounts.
    • Be clear about the aims of your project and be clear about what you want the money for. Create a video which explains all of this in a couple of minutes.

Sarah CorriganSarah Corrigan from Junction49 tells us why the site is going from strength-to-strength, and how you can now get funding for your project through Cashpoint.

This week is a big one for Junction49 as we reach our 5th Birthday. Since it first launched in 2007 we’ve worked with young people and organisations all over the country to deliver projects – from working in universities and youth clubs to schools. Earlier this year we were welcomed into the vInspired family and we have gone from strength-to-strength with hundreds of engaged young people working together to make a difference within their local communities.

    Bursting with ideas

The range of ideas on Junction49 really is widespread and there are projects being set up by young people aged 13-25 all across the country. Whether you’re interested in doing something to do with mental health, employment, sport or perhaps even something entrepreneurial there’s a project waiting for your help.

    What’s your idea?

Perhaps there’s something you’ve always wanted to do, but didn’t know how? Or there’s a cause that you’re really passionate about raising awareness about? Whatever it is, as long it’s led by young people and aims to make a difference we want to hear it.

    We’ll support you

Through Junction49 you’ll get your own page dedicated to your idea. You can use it as you like, updating a diary of your experience as you go, and adding photos and videos to show off and showcase your achievements. You’ll receive support from me to help make your idea happen, including help to plan the project, the opportunity to connect with others and promotion. The best bit is that if you need funding you can apply to vInspired Cashpoint for the cash and we’ll support you with everything else you need to get your idea set up.

    You’re Hired Event

If you’re looking for inspiration check out this video featuring Junction49er, Ebuni, who set up employment seminars for young people with support from Junction49 and cash from vInspired Cashpoint.

To get started, head on over to www.junction49.co.uk or send an email to help@junction49.co.uk with any questions.  You can also keep up to date with the latest goings on over on Twitter @junction49.

    Mental Health

Our online platform, Junction49, supports young people to set up their own social action projects, tackling the issues that matter to them.

These range from tackling youth unemployment to addressing gun and knife crime – but one of the most common recent themes for projects ismental health.

Some projects can be difficult reading, with young people talking about their own personal experiences of diagnosable mental illnesses.

But it certainly makes me want to take action. In fact, I’ve recently signed up to be a mentor on a youth mental health project as a result.

What fills me with hope is that these young people are openly talking about their experiences and coming up with fantastic ideas to actively do something to change attitudes and services. Surely this can only lead to the stigma surrounding mental health starting to be eradicated?

Nearly everyday I see something in the news on this subject. Whether it be MPs opening up during a momentous debate in Parliament about their own difficulties with their mental health.or a report published recently which stated that 1 in 10 children and young people aged 5-16 suffer from a diagnosable mental health disorder (that’s 3 children in every class).

This isn’t a topic to be taken lightly and ignored. Now is the time to act and our young people on Junction49 are doing just that.

Here are some of the most inspiring projects currently running…

    Mind the Gap
vInspired National Award Winner, Joanna Mayes has set-up Mind the Gap, offering support sesssions for people who have a mental health issue or know someone who has. She’s also compiling a report she conducted with 500 participants to find out what support services people want.

    Mentally Misunderstood
Fed up with being put on a long waiting list to receive support for depression, Priya decided to try “pet therapy”, adopting an abandoned rabbit from a rescue centre which helped her to recover. She’s now creating a website to ensure other young people get the similar support they need.

    No Body is Perfect
Having suffered from an eating disorder and faced discrimination at school, Tierna aims to go into schools in her local area and raise awareness about mental health issues to ensure no one else has to go through what she experienced. Tierna says: “My inspiration comes from my own personal experiences of feeling lost in the system and confused by conflicting info from people trying to help me.”

    The Mental Health Education Project
The Mental Health Education Project was set up in 2007. It’s a multi-dimensional education and campaign project, which aims to raise awareness of Mental Health, teach young people ways of dealing with stress and other Mental Health issues. They make lesson plans, learning resources, awareness videos and drama sketches suitable for all ages and abilities.

    Get involved

If you’d like to get involved in any of the above ideas, or would like to set up your own project, head to Junction49 for support, ideas and inspiration.

Aged between 13-25 and want to make a difference in your community? Whether you’re looking for a big project with a twist, or just fancy something light touch – look no further, there are lots of exciting new opportunities on Junction49.

Junction49 helps you to set up your own projects, campaigns or events about issues that matter to you. Here are just a few of the ways you can make a difference, right now….

Find a cause and support it

    Community volunteering

    • Have you or someone you know been affected by cancer? Or maybe you’re passionate about fundraising? Hannah has set up her own charity, Butterfly Giving, with the aim of fighting teenage cancer whilst making fundraising cool. She’s looking for others to join her fundraising efforts, so whether you’ve got a great idea or want to organise an event yourself, get in touch with Hannah.

    • Asma wants to show off her pj’s and walk through London to raise money for Great Ormond Street. Fancy joining her in her mission? If you’re not based in London, but want to organise a similar event in your area, post it on Junction49 now to get started!

    Get sporty

    Sporty opportunities with Junction 49

    • The start of university can be daunting for some. Aysha from De Montfort Uni wants to support young people through the transition by setting up L’Spire -a social group bringing new and current students together through sport to discuss any concerns they have.. Whether you want to get involved or set up your own version of L’Spire at your university, get in touch with Aysha.

    • This summer Asem wants to make the most of being able to get outdoors and is setting up a weekly football tournament in Birmingham to encourage a healthier lifestyle for the young people in her area. To join in with the kickabout, leave a comment on Asem’s page.

    Bring communities together

    Team v East London

    • Feeling inspired by the last Teamv campaign? Why not set up your own project to help reduce loneliness and isolation amongst the older generation in your local area? Sasha is doing just that by organising a quiz night in her local community to bring different generations together and reduce social isolation in the village that she lives in.

    • Support the creation of a fantastic new social enterprise! Wellness Street provides activity sessions like Yoga and Pilates to those in recovery from addiction, homelessness and mental health issues. To show your support, simply ‘like’ their page on Facebook.

Got a great idea of your own that you want support with? Head over to Junction49  post your idea and we’ll give you all the support and advice you need to get it up and running.
